Flowers, cake, and more!
Just to keep everyone up to date... Kris and I (well, mostly me - it was the one thing Kris cared least about, thank goodness!) recently picked out the flowers for the wedding. We're working with a small florist near my parents house who do really nice work. For a sneak peek at some of their designs go to www.naturenookonline.com, then click on Wedding and Events. On the 15th of August we're going for a cake tasting - both looking forward to that I think! Just about the only thing left to do is book a honeymoon... :)

Save the date!!!
At long last Kris and I finally think we have the date of the wedding pinned down! It looks like the big event will take place on:
April 10th, 2010
So please mark your calendars. :) While the exact details are a bit tentative at this point, we're looking at an afternoon wedding (about 1 PM) and an evening reception (about 6 PM). The ceremony will take place at St. Julie Billart Catholic church in Hamilton and the reception will be held at the Courtyard Marriott right next door. We have blocked off 25 rooms at the Marriott and guests will receive a discounted rate. The reception will be an adults only reception due to the size of both of our families.
We'll keep you posted about additional details as they become available.

Reception halls, dates, and waiting...
So, Kris and I have been trying to lock down a date and place for our wedding for a little under a month now… We have found it to be a bit of a trying task. After lots of online research, phone calls, on-site visits, and tense conversations between the two of us we think we have it narrowed down to a top two.
For those of you who have been kept up to date, we regret to inform you that it appears the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Hamilton is no longer an option. L However, we’re now looking into the possibility of a reception of the Fitton Center which may be equally nice. (Thanks to Kelli for calling on her connections in the area to try to help us out!) If the Fitton Center doesn’t work out for some reason, then we still have an equally beautiful back up plan at a hall overlooking a golf course near my parent’s house. Both are great options! And we’re happy to have good choices! Now about that date…
Again, for those of you in the know, you might remember that we were originally targeting a date of May 15, 2010 (since that was almost exactly a year to the date when Kris proposed – a fact that may serve as a helpful clue to a future fact or crap question!). That was also a very special day because it is Fred and Andrea’s (Kris’s aunt and uncle’s) wedding anniversary! While we would love to share that special day with the two of them, budget takes precedence (sorry!). Based on discounted reception sites and cheaper honeymoon flights and better hall availability – and an overall sense of wanting to get started on our lives together as soon as possible - we are now looking at dates in early March.
We’re hoping to get this all squared away before we head to Hilton Head Island with Mike, Kelli, and the boys at the end of next week but… Based on our experience so far, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. We will definitely keep you posted as we get close to finalizing the plans!

The Proposal - Kris's version
Around Christmas 2008 I knew that it was time for me to start planning the proposal. I had told Trish that I was not going to propose until after she graduated, and that day was fast approaching! I knew that Trish wanted her proposal to be in front of those she loved the most so I decided to plan a “graduation party” as a cover for popping the big question.
Trish was going to China for 10 days in late February-early March so I figured that I would be able to do some of the important things while she was half a world away. I asked her mom and dad (Dan & Mary Jo) to go to dinner at The Boathouse on the Friday after Trish left, knowing that she would have no way of knowing that we were out to dinner without her. I was more nervous than I expected waiting on them to arrive. Once they got there we had a few drinks, so when I finally got enough liquid courage in me to start the conversation about why we were there Mary Jo said “Kris, don’t say anything else…..Dan, you need to tell him.” I looked at Dan as he said “Kris, before you ask us what you’re going to ask, there are a few things about Trish that you need to know.”
In the back of my mind I’m thinking that this is a joke but Dan’s face is as serious as I’ve ever seen it. Right when he almost has me convinced that he’s being sincere I look at Mary Jo who is almost in convulsions from trying to hold her laughter in! We all share a good laugh, which definitely helped ease the tension for me. I proceeded to tell them how much I loved Trish and that I would like their blessing to ask her to marry me. They were overjoyed and quickly gave me their blessing (although Mary Jo tried to tell me that in exchange for Trish’s hand in marriage that I had to give her my Avalanche! Not a chance!!).
Now that the hard part was over I got in contact with Trish’s cousin (Debbie) who is a jewelry designer. Trish told me what she generally wanted in an engagement ring and so I did some research and gave Debbie some pictures of rings that I though Trish would like. While all of this is going on I started to plan the graduation party, knowing that I was going to propose to Trish that same day. My original plan was to take Trish to the site of our first date (Maggiano’s in Kenwood) for lunch, find the approximate place in the parking lot where we first kissed and propose there.
However, I got a little ahead of myself in inviting people to the party and Trish started to catch on to my plan (props to Erin for giving me the heads up)! I could not have Trish thinking that she was on to me so I had to change things up a few weeks before the actual graduation ceremony. I invited Trish’s close friends and family to the graduation ceremony, letting them know that I was planning on proposing that day. I showed the ring off to all of them before the ceremony and told them the general plan.
We met in front of the Musketeer statue outside of the Cintas Center after graduation (I've since been told that we can photoshop that out of the pictures). Everyone was standing in a circle when Trish walked up. She gave everyone a hug and once she go to me I hugged her tight and told her how proud I was of her. She kind of started to pull away but I wasn’t going to let her goquite yet. I told her that, just like when she started her MBA 4 years ago, never thinking she would get it done, that 4 years ago I would have never thought that I would ever get to ask anyone this question. I took a step back and got down on one knee. Trish said “Oh my God!” and raised her hands to her face just like Maculay Culkin in Home Alone! I held the ring up to her and asked “Will you marry me?” I will never forget the answer…….”YES…..THANK YOU!” It was, as Trish said, one of the best days ever!

Fact or Crap #1
From time to time Kris and I will post questions about our relationship to see who knows the bride and groom best. You answer, and we’ll tell you if your answer is correct (fact) or false (crap). Typically you'll be given about two weeks to respond (no late submissions will be accepted). We’ll keep track throughout the year and the person with the greatest number of correct answers will win a small prize to be awarded at the reception. Good luck! And may the best man (woman) win!
So let the games begin!! The deadline for answering this question is Thursday, June 4th. The first question is...
How (or where) did Kris and I meet?

The Proposal - Trish's version
Several months ago, Kris said he was going to plan a graduation party for me. I was really excited because I had worked long and hard and I was finally graduating – I thought that was reason enough to celebrate! But as the weeks went by, the guest list for the party kept growing and growing… I have a fairly big family, so the size of the guest list wasn't really anything new. But some of the guests were… I assumed Kris would invite my sister, Meg, from Chicago and her family, but I was surprised when he told me his mom was coming in from Cleveland for my little graduation party. It seemed a bit fishy to me… So I started to suspect that he might propose that weekend…
My friend, Erin, couldn’t make it to the party because she was going to the lake. I said, “That’s okay, but I think Kris might propose that night and I’m not sure that he would tell you that’s what he’s planning on doing, so I just don’t want you to miss out.” She said, “Do you really think he’d do it then?” I told her that I didn’t know for sure; but that I had a feeling it might be that night. She said, “What if it doesn’t happen then? Will you be disappointed?” And I told her no (which was the truth), and that I didn’t know for sure. I mean, for all I knew he might not have proposed until December or something, so I wasn’t going to hold my breath. But if he was going to propose that night, I wanted her to be there. But I decided to try not to think about it too much so that I wasn't disappointed if it he didn't.
The week of my graduation I was exhausted. I hadn’t really had time to recuperate from school yet. So I decided to take an impromptu day off that Friday. Kris said he’d take the day off too. We went to the gym that Thursday night, ran errands and worked in the yard all day Friday. (I cut his last intact extension cord by accident – those things are expensive!! Sorry honey.) In short, we spent ALL of our time together leading up to my graduation ceremony. I thought, for sure, he could NOT be proposing to me at graduation or else he would have been trying to get rid of me that day – he would have needed some time to prepare. So I thought it was just a normal graduation day.
Saturday morning we headed to the ceremony. I thought that it would be long and boring, and I thought that I was just walking in it to appease my friends and family. But when I walked onto the floor of the Cintas center with the graduation march playing, and in my cap and gown, I suddenly felt overwhelmed. I almost started crying. I couldn’t believe I had worked so hard for so long and that it was here – I was finally finished – I was actually graduating! I held back my tears, made it through the ceremony, and went to meet my family and friends afterward!
Kris had suggested we meet in front of the musketeer statue in front of the Cintas Center (nice pick for a UC fan, huh?). I was hugging each of my friends and family members and thanking them for coming. Then I hugged Kris. He held me tight and said, “I’m so, so proud of you.” In my head I was thinking, “I know. Me too. We’ve talked about this for weeks and months now. Why are you being so dramatic?” When I went to pull away from the hug, Kris held onto me tight. He said, “Four years ago I could have never imagined that I’d be able to say these words to someone…” I felt confused and had no idea what he was talking about until I noticed that he was shaking - he was nervous. I shrieked as I started to realize what was happening and Kris got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” “YES!,” I said, almost instantaneously (in fact, I said it before I even saw the ring – now that’s love)! The ring was perfect – exactly what I wanted – and the proposal was too! From there we went to dinner at the Boathouse - where my family goes to celebrate all major life events - with my family (Kelli - you're included in that too!) and my closest friends. I couldn’t stop smiling and looking at my ring. It truly was, in the words of Steph and Carol, the best day EVER! J
